🔓Ungating Products
This is just a brief overview of ungating with Amazon. A more detailed section below explains the process in greater depth.
When selling on Amazon, you’ll often come across gated brands or categories. This system exists to protect customers from counterfeit or unsafe products by ensuring only approved sellers can list them.
🧐 How to Know If You’re Gated
When you try to add an ASIN to your inventory:
If the product is open, you’ll be able to add it straight away.
If the product is gated, you’ll see an “Apply to sell” button.
⚡ Auto-Ungating
Sometimes when you click Apply to sell, you’ll be automatically approved. This becomes more common as your account builds selling history — over time, most sellers auto-ungate on 90%+ of brands and categories.
📑 Manual Ungating with Invoices
If auto-approval doesn’t work, you’ll need to submit an invoice (usually for 10 units) to Amazon. (Check requirements)
Key points:
Invoices must be from a wholesaler, online distributor, or Amazon itself (retailer receipts like BigW/Target won’t be accepted).
Photos of the product and order confirmation may also be requested.
Always save your invoice clearly — e.g.
BRAND NAME Invoice – 21 Sept 2025.
💡 Tip: If you buy A2A (Amazon-to-Amazon) leads, Amazon invoices can sometimes be used for ungating — but only if all 10+ units appear on the same invoice. If Amazon splits your shipment across invoices, this can cause problems.
💷 Example Strategy
Let’s say you want to sell Tommee Tippee but your account is gated.
Option 1: Buy 10 cheaper Tommee Tippee items from a wholesaler/distributor, submit the invoice, and get ungated. Some retailers allow you to return the products for your money back.
Option 2: Use an Amazon Business invoice from an A2A order (if all units appear on one invoice).
Either way, once approved, you’ll be ungated for that brand/category across all listings.
🧠 Persistence is Key
Ungating isn’t always instant. Many sellers need to try multiple cases before approval. To boost your chances:
Leave a few days between ungate submissions.
Include extra photos (invoice, order confirmation, product images).
Keep filenames neat and professional.
Even if you’re rejected 10+ times, keep trying — persistence usually pays off.

✅ Ungating is a normal part of the Amazon journey. Once you’ve got a few under your belt, you’ll start auto-ungating more often — and soon, most brands/categories will open up naturally.
