🧮Calculating Sales On Variation Listings

A variation listing is when a single product listing has different options, like colours, sizes, or styles.

When looking at variation listings, it’s important to know the difference between Helium 10 data and Amazon’s own sales data:

  • Helium 10 shows total sales for all variations combined. The BSR (Best Seller Rank) is also for the main listing, not each variation.

  • Amazon’s sales data on a listing page is for that specific variation only. You can use it to double-check and see how that variation is really selling.

Even if Helium 10 shows sales for a variation, it’s usually based on total listing sales, not just that variation.

How to Check Variation Sales Using Helium 10 (Xray)

  1. Go to the exact variation you want to check (correct colour, size, etc.).

  2. Click the Helium 10 Xray button on the listing.

  3. The sales per month at the top are for the entire listing, not just your variation.

  4. Scroll down to the Variations section in Xray.

  5. Find your variation and note the estimated monthly sales.

  6. Compare it to the total listing sales to see what share of sales that variation likely has.

  7. You can also check Amazon’s sales data on that variation to cross-check your numbers.

Calculating Approximate Sales for a Specific Variation

Percentage=[FormattedVariationReviews/TotalProductReviews]x100Percentage = [Formatted Variation Reviews / Total ProductReviews] x 100

Use this formula to estimate the variation’s contribution to the total listing:

Variation Sales ÷ Total Listing Sales = Percentage of Total Sales

Then multiply this percentage by the total listing sales to get the estimated monthly sales for that variation.

Example

  • Total listing sales (Helium 10): 450 per month

  • Variation makes up ~25% of total sales

  • Estimated monthly sales for that variation: 450 × 25% = ~112 units

Important Notes

  • Helium 10 data is an estimate, not exact

  • Data is more accurate for listings with consistent sales history

  • Always check:

    • Number of reviews for the variation

    • Price

    • Amazon’s sales data for that variation

    • Competition
